It only happens like this in movies. Our Hero goes into his Computer Science Class and the biggest geek in the room isn't our hero, it's not the guy who sat beside him, but the proffessor. All the following comments were said in the the first class:
"To explain the concept of the Dyad... Who here has played Dungeons and Dragons?" (silence, everyone of us afraid to admit the truth)
"Does anyone remember the old Infocom games, specifically Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy, which douglas Adam wrote himself?"
"That remind me of a Joke." (which is neither funny nor dirty)
"Has anyone here seen the last episode of 'Buffy'."
"On the plane to texas, I was really lucky find they had the last episode of the original Star Trek."
He wears a huge tie, suspenders and a huge backpack, expertly straped down. wow. picture it.
He made a monty python and the Holy Grail Joke which nobody got and then explained it to the class (The Holy Hand Grenade).
He bemoaned that when he was in undergrad his classmates were better versed in Star Trek, D&D and the like... In fact we all knew what he was talking about, we just didn't want to admit it.
We all quietly sat, looking about the room for someone to break, someone to follow, then settling in thinking the same thing "Shhh it's a secret. As long as I don't blow my cover. I'm the computer science student who's cool, that's me, I'm that guy. I can do it."
Today's Song of the Day is "Lucy with Diamonds" by William Shatner off his 1968 album "The Transformed Man."
Crazy Fact: Has a business degree from McGill University.

That's too funny, College-boy.
Yeah, it's everyone's dirty little secret.
Betcha Caleb would answered every one of them questions and let his geek-flag fly, baby.
Shatner recently did a song with Henry Rollins on his latest album 'Has-been'
Rollins is a world-class geek too, but he could snap your neck like a twig.

godamn right I would have. Pif, you're on geek suspension. A few more episodes like this, and I'm going to tear up your card...
wait, unless trying to hide unmoving in plain view, eyes darting nervously back and forth, hoping for someone to bring up music or something when D&D is mentioned is actually geekier than speaking up...hmm...tough call...
ok, you can keep your card, buddy...for now...
I've seen Vin Diesel talk about his obsession with D&D. Both Samuel L. Jackson and Nick Cage (who got his last name from Luke Cage/Power Man) collect comic books. Spider-Man 2 was the biggest movie opening ever and Lord Of the Rings won an Oscar for best movie. These things are about as counter culture as getting a tattoo.
Its probably one reason I hate that lead singer with the Buddy Holly glasses from Weezer who sings about 12 sided die and Star Wars. Its like, dude, nobody really gives a shit - let it go. Geek culture has long gone the way of hippie culture, hip hop culture, gay culture . . . that is, its just not dangerous anymore.
And yes, I need my own blog.
