I once argued that this was the greatest Pop song ever written. I was committed to this position, so it was convincing just on the basises of my conviction. I was wrong. but I still love it. totally love it, the swells, the contrasts, the duet harmony, the piano, the explosions of sound the wind effects. To me it sounds like the end of an era of music. They never made a song like this again. It's like what '18 and Life' was to hair metal, Grunge and Alt took the metal heads away. Nirvana was the executioners axe to metal, GnR hold bearly hold it together against them. the truth was GnR was a great metal band but nirvana was better music. sorry wife beater your out. Jane's Addiction has you beat... anyway this song has something seventies in it's production that was past its prime so kind of hits a softspot with me. Like fistful of wilted daisies or Arriving muddy and late to the prom. Like the perfect sad faced clown of pop music.
me like.
(I can't believe they use sleighbells!)
Today's Song of the Day is "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler off her 1982 album "Faster Than the Speed of Night."
Crazy Fact: Nodules on her vocal cords prevented her from singing full time until 1976, when she underwent an operation to have them removed. The surgery left her with a fucking cool, raspy, husky voice.

"We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks"
A heavy metal cheese ass lyric, hahaha. The video is the best, cables on the floor, shot in a day, and they had to go back and shoot without Bonnie later to fill in the gaps.
Ah, that's a crazy gut-jerkin tune.
speaking of guilty pleasures, i love styx.
babe, come sail away, the grand illusion...all make me weak at the knees.
and anything from mr roboto gives me a nice laugh.
i saw the tour and they were going for a "pink floyd the wall" concept album and show. needless to say, it was HILARIOUS.
i heard something terrible the other day: styx is touring this summer and instead of dennis de young, they're taking fucking larry gowan!!! the horror. the horror.
Ga. Ga. Gowan. Well Gowan's amazing, actually, he's just cheesey as hell... Maybe with Styx they can make Quiche or something...
